If your new lock is the same brand and model as the old one you may be able to keep your existing latch plate and strike plate. Remove the strike plate on the door jamb as well. When the screws are out both sides of the lock will simply slide off leaving only the latch in the door. Insert the pins and reassemble the lock dump out the old pins insert the new key and use tweezers or small needle nose pliers to match the new colored pins to the color code on the special instruction sheet.
Remove the two screws from the latch assembly on the side of the door. Use a phillips head screwdriver to unfasten the two or three screws located on the inside knob plate. In apartment complexes this is now the most common way of changing locks on a door. On the opposite side insert the bar into the channel in the back of the turn assembly plate.
Insert the exterior part of the lock into the door by feeding the long metal piece through the opening in the center of the bolt. Insert another flathead screwdriver under the edges of the tabs holding the lock cylinder in place within the housing. Insert a flatheaded screwdriver into the spindle housing hole. Insert the new bolt into the opening on the edge of the door and fasten it to the door with the provided screws.
